YOGA THERAPY

We live in a world that favors the brain and our intellect over the wisdom of the body. A world that favors empiricism and proof and facts, instead of feelings, self-awareness, and inner knowing that comes from tuning into the body. We’re being driven to distraction and endless consumption, that give rise to empty, disembodied experiences. It’s time to reclaim our vitality, by learning to attend to and connect to our bodies and our breath.

We’ve been socialized to prioritize the brain over the body, and both Emotion-focused therapy (EFT) and yoga therapy can bring the two back in balance. Like EFT, yoga therapy can be a way to access the intelligence and wisdom of the body to help us understand what sensations and feelings are present within us, and how we can best use this information. In doing so, we are enhancing our resilience and deepening the connection to ourselves.

"The greatest sin is to think yourself weak."

- Swami Vivekanand, Pearls of Wisdom

What to expect

Yoga therapy is the process of promoting physical and psychological changes through the use of ancient practices that constitute yoga. The sessions are private, and personalized, intended to address a specific psychological or emotional difficulty, including:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • low self esteem
  • trauma

Yoga therapy can be especially useful for individuals who have trouble talking about what they feel or for those who seek a method of deep healing that is not based on traditional talk therapy. In yoga therapy, we’re not talking through personal problems; we’re connecting with our deeper selves through specific postures (asanas), mindfulness and meditation, working with the breath (pranayama), and using sacred sound (mantra).
